Instead of installing a metal cap flashing over the fireplace chimney chase,  the roofer for the Scottsdale home decided to cover the chase with roofing material.  The problem with this installation is that the roofing material and asphalt based sealant are combustible and the metal chimney pipe needs at least two (2) inches of clearance from combustible materials.
